Essential Oils and Blends for Broken Capillaries

As we age, especially for fair-skinned individuals we find more broken capillaries on our face, in particular our cheeks, nose and décolleté area. These happen for a variety of reasons, from thin skin, extreme weather, hot baths to sitting to long. As a result, the cells in the capillary walls become weak and lose their elasticity.

Broken capillaries are also referred to as varicose veins, thread veins, spider veins, or couperose skin. When capillaries lose their elasticity after dilating, they cannot return to their previous size, instead they collapse and we end up with a spidery red patch on our skin.

While none of these recipes have been scientifically tested and I've been told that it will take months to see real improvement.... so do not give up.

Factors That Cause Capillaries to Dilate

Face
  • Hot baths and showers,
  • Hot facials,
  • Scrubbing face too vigorously,
  • Sun and alcohol.
Legs
  • Being over weight,
  • Poor diet,
  • Lifting heavy objects,
  • Sitting or standing for long periods.

Recipes to Reduce Broken Capillaries

Face oil for broken capillaries
  • 30ml (2 tbspn) rose masqueta oil (same as Rosehip Seed Oil from Chile, it is rich in essential fatty acids)
  • 10ml (1 tsp.) argan oil
  • 2 capsules borage oil
  • 2 capsules wheat germ oil
  • 6 drops parsley essential oil
  • 2 drops essential oil of chamomile or orange
  • 50ml, dark, glass bottle

Mix in the bottle and gently apply to the face after cleansing, preferably in the morning. After ten minutes, gently remove any surplus oil with a tissue or apply the mixture with damp hands to help the blend penetrate the skin. This oil will keep for two to three months.

Vitamin C is extremely good for strengthening the walls of veins. Parsley is a particularly effective essential oil to use as it slows down the spread of broken capillaries and reduces their appearance.

Facial Oil for Broken Capillaries
  • 1 ounce jojoba oil
  • ½ ounce rose hip seed oil
  • 10 drops borage oil
  • 4 drops cypress essential oil
  • 3 drops lemon essential oil
  • 2 drops palmarosa essential oil

Mix the jojoba and rose hip see oils together in a dark, glass bottle, add the essential oils and gently mix. Gently apply the blend to the affected area once or twice a day preferably before going to bed and early morning. Gently remove any excess oil with a soft cloth or apply mixture with damp hands to help the oils penetrate the skin.

Cypress strengthens veins and improves circulation.

Floral Facial Oil For Broken Capillaries
  • ½ ounce hazelnut oil
  • ¼ ounce rose hip seed oil
  • 10 drops borage oil
  • 3 drops neroli essential oil
  • 3 drops rose essential oil
  • 2 drops geranium essential oil

Mix the carrier oils together in a dark, glass bottle, followed by the essential oils, and blend well. Apply the oil to the affected area daily. Gently remove any excess oil with a soft cloth or apply mixture with damp hands to help the oils penetrate the skin.

Capillary-Conditioning Body Oil
  • 1 ½ ounces sunflower oil
  • ½ ounce rose hip seed oil
  • 20 drops borage oil
  • 5 drops geranium essential oil
  • 3 drops lemon essential oil
  • 3 drops rosemary essential oil
  • 2 drops cypress essential oil

Mix the carrier oils together in a dark, glass bottle, followed by the essential oils, and blend well. Gently massage the oil blend over the affected area of the body daily. You can massage with damp hands to help the oil blend penetrate the skin.

Geranium oil can lower your blood sugar level. Use it with caution or omit it altogether if you have hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
